Virtua Tennis 4 Preview

May 10th, 2011 seems like so far away for fans who are waiting for Virtua Tennis 4 to be released for Wii.  Developed in Japan by Sega’s original Virtua Tennis team, this installment is promised to offer a more realistic experience than every before.  Virtua Tennis 4 isn’t only about simply hitting the ball!  No, it’s also about the speed and spin of the ball, angle of your racket and how much power and follow through goes into your shot.

Storyline

If you are looking for a heroic or puzzle-solving storyline, you certainly won’t find one here.  What you will find however is the strongest lineup of players of all the game’s predecessors.  Swinging your virtual racket in Virtua Tennis 4 has your competing with names like Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Fernando Gonzalez, Laura Robson, Caroline Wozniacki and Juan Marton Del Potro.  With competition like this, who needs a storyline?

Gameplay

Virtua Tennis 4 allows you to play as some of the best professionals in the world.  Every swing of your racket will be evaluated by the Wii Motion Plus and although your right and left movement is automatic, you can rush the net or draw back by taking a step forward or backward.

There is going to be a phenomenal camera system in Virtua Tennis 4 for an enhanced gaming experience.  This means that if the ball is at half court, you are going to be able to fully evaluate your position because the camera will automatically pan out.  When the ball comes toward you, the camera will gracefully glide to a first-person viewpoint so you can see your racket on the screen in front of you.  This will help you swing accordingly.  You’ll even be able to adjust the face of your racket by twisting it to connect with the ball exactly the way that you want to.

Virtua Tennis 4 features a World Tour Career mode this time around so no two careers will ever be exactly the same.  There is also an On-court feature for singles and doubles that are far more dramatic than the past three games put together.  You’ll be able to really build up your Match Momentum gauge and watch it through the match which is always a confidence booster.

Fans should also be super thrilled over the new Online mode, promising a far more competitive and superior matchmaking system than you’ve ever experienced before.

Graphics

Virtua Tennis 4 is going to give you a whole new outlook on the word realism.  This is the closest you can get to your favorite players and the feeling of being on a court without actually being on a court.  From the facial expressions of the fans in the nosebleed section of the stands to the way your shadow bounces back and forth with you on the court exactly the way it should if the sun was at your back, everything is thought out and highly-detailed.  No other tennis game has accomplished what Virtua Tennis 4 has!

Conclusion

Whether you have played the series or if you are a new fan, this is the one tennis game that you will want to play on Wii.  It’s definitely not one that will sit in your collection and get dusty because your career can change and now you’ll be able to compete online, opening up endless possibilities.
