Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix Review

I am an avid fan of Harry Potter and as such, I had high expectations for this game. Previous incarnations of the Harry Potter films have been ok to play but not really anything special. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the first of the series to make it to the Wii and it just happens to be the best of the bunch. Order of the Phoenix is the fifth book in the series and takes place just after the return of Lord Voldemort. The game takes place in Hogwarts where the ministry for magic is trying to cover up the re-appearance of he who must not be named and has placed Dolores Umbridge there as a teacher to accomplish this.

The game starts off by running you through early locations of the film as a tutorial where you learn how to perform several spells. This is done by using your Wii remote as a wand which is perfect for the job and never in the entire game becomes boring. The tutorial is over relatively quickly and places you into Hogwarts where you get to perform the spells you have just learnt in lots of different ways including searching through Hagrids garden and repairing broken staircases.

The game is incredibly good looking with some of the best graphics seen on the Wii and plays incredibly well too. Especially impressive is the fact that once you reach Hogwarts, there are no more loading times so you can literally wander anywhere in the castle or the grounds without being faced with a loading screen. The main game is not overly long but there are many side quests to do which give you bonuses when completed which add extra play time to the game. The game is very much like the books in that it can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, being not too difficult but at the same time engaging and I heartily recommend it to any Harry Potter fans out there.
